    Another great Kak barrel

First 100 rnds through this barrel was shooting consistent 2” groups at 100 yds at a seated bench using a sand bag for a rest with a 3x prism with cqb reticle and junk ammo. I’m convinced this barrel can cure cancer

    Great Value!

Purchased this barrel for a build I did with my Dad and it is pretty accurate. Shot 1 inch groups at 36yds with this barrel length, and caliber, using steel case ammo. Would definitely recommend this barrel!!

    Flawless

I see a few comments about gas port problems. Nope. Used the KAK upper, parts, and bolt. Runs flawlessly on all my standard carbine lowers. Ejection is perfect. Eats crappy steel ammo like candy. I would highly recommend this for anyone that wants a very powerful home defense weapon for close quarters.

    Shoots good

Good deal and pretty accurate. Did have to open up the gas port a little, from about .075” to .093” to get it to lock back

    It’s ok.

Well, price was right, came into stock, got it, a gas block and tube ordered in early April. It is accurate, way better than irons with any ak. Gas port was a little too small for my combo. With a standard buffer and “enhanced” spring it would not lock back on empty mag or cycle. Went down to 1.7 oz buffer, no go. The gas port was .075-3 area. Went to .093 area and put in an old carbine spring and is good with upto h3. Going to try a new carbine spring and the extra power spring again to see if I can get it perfict with a standard buffer.

Nice finish, good size; gas port too small.

I was excited when I received it; I like the 11" length and the awesome nitrided finish. Built the firearm, and paid very special attention to ensure the clamp-on YHM gas block was properly centered over the gas port. However, when I went to the range with Wolf 123 gr copper bullet/steel case ammo, the firearm would eject but not feed; not enough gas. Added a Sprinco Yellow reduced power buffer spring, and with that the firearm would cycle and feed, but only locked open on an empty mag about 50% of the time. The gas port appears to be ~0.086" (a 0.093" drill bit would not fit. By way of comparison, a 16" BCA barrel (also carbine gas), which has a 0.093" gas port cycles perfectly, and given that it's a 16" barrel has more bullet dwell time which send more gas to the BCG, so this gas port is definitely undersized given the barrel length and carbine gas system. I've sent the barrel to a gunsmith to drill the gas port open to 0.125" and will be installing a Superlative Arms clamp-on adjustable gas block to adjust down to the gas needed to cycle properly. This is costing me $75 for the drill-work, and $100 for the SupArms adj gas block, which therefore reduced the "value" component of this barrel.

Good value; need yellow spring to lock back on empty.

Posted by Marc on April 18, 2021

As mentioned in the tag line, this barrel is excellent value, especially given the Melonite (nitrided) finish. Also quite accurate, albeit shooting with iron sights only. That said, even with perfect gas block alignment on the gas port, it wouldn’t lock open on empty ans ~50% of the time failed to feed a new round, so undergassed. I have a Sprinco yellow (reduced power) buffer spring on the way, and will update the review after that, as I think that will solve the issue. If not, I’ll have to have the gas port drilled out. Would be nice if the gas port size were noted on the specs on this website.

very accurate barrel. can beat the price

Posted by Kevin on June 28, 2020

my goal was to be able to shoot steel case ammo (for price) because .223 is getting expensive because of Covid- upon installation i wanted to make sure rounds cycled by hand, during this i have rounds not want to leave the chamber (after s a quick polish it was fixed). upon first test fire it would short cycle so bad i essentially had a bolt action firearm, i read online that the gas port should be 1/8” ( i also have an agressive muzzle break on so that may have played a part in the malfunctioning) but once i opend up the hole, it worked flawlessly

Great barrel and high quality through and through

Another great barrel from KAK. The first time out with this barrel using a suppressor and Wolf ammo, it functioned flawlessly with all the rounds put through it. I would recommend this barrel to anyone wanting to build a pistol in 7.62X39. Also cleaning this barrel was a zip with the Melonite coating. This may be their value barrel but I would put it up against any barrel maker, exceptionally accuracy even with cheap ammo, can't wait to try it with my reloads.
